Butternut squash is a delicious and nutritious vegetable that can be baked, steamed, or microwaved. It’s usually eaten as a side dish during the colder months of the year. It takes somewhat longer to cook a squash like this than it does to cook cubed butternut squash, so keep that in mind. Place


Preheat the oven to 425°F.

Position butternut squash halves cut side down on a rimmed baking sheet and roast until fork-tender, about 40 minutes. Exclude from the oven and let cool slightly before handling.

Cooking a whole butternut squash in an Instant Pot:

Squash that fits entirely inside your pressure cooker isn’t always readily accessible, so this is the most time-consuming option. However, because it doesn’t require any cutting or peeling, it’s the most straightforward and quickest approach possible. Because cooking time varies based on the size and thickness of the squash, it can be difficult.

  • Place a trivet/steamer basket in the Instant Pot’s bottom. One cup of water should be added.
  • Cover the squash with the lid and simmer for 30 minutes on high pressure.
  • Allow for natural release after 10 minutes of turning off the heat. With a sharp knife, carefully cut it in half across the grain.

  • Preheat the oven to 425°F.
  • Douse the squash cubes on a baking sheet and drizzle with olive oil, salt, and pepper. I recommend 1-2 teaspoons of oil, 1/4-1/2 teaspoon salt, and 1/8-1/4 teaspoon black pepper for a medium-sized squash. Make sure all of the squash is well coated with oil before placing it in the oven.
  • Roast for 25-30 minutes, stirring once midway through, or until squash is golden brown and fork-tender. It will become mushy if it overcooks.


  • Scrub squash well with a vegetable brush. Place whole squash in the slow cooker. I recommend lining the slow cooker with foil for easy cleanup.
  • Cook on low for 4-8 hours, or until fork-tender, or high for 2-4 hours.
  • Exclude from heat, allow to cool slightly, then cut into halves and discard seeds before scraping away cooked squash from skincare. Toss cooked squash in a mixing bowl together with any accumulated liquids. Remove pan from oven and continue to cook remaining cheese slices until they are golden brown and heated through (about 20 minutes).


  • For all methods, add 1 cup of water to the Instant Pot’s steamer basket.
  • Scrub the squash well with a vegetable brush and place it in the steamer basket. Sealing the lid and setting it for 30 minutes at high pressure is what you’ll do next. Allow 10 minutes for natural release before carefully removing the cover.
  • Scrub a quartered squash thoroughly with a vegetable brush to remove any dirt. Cut the squash into quarters and exclude the seeds. Place in a steamer basket, cover tightly with the lid, and cook for 10 minutes at high pressure. Allow encumbrance to release for 10 minutes before carefully removing the cap naturally.
  • Scrub squash cubes with a vegetable brush to remove any dirt. Peel, core, and cube the squash. Place in a steamer basket with the lid closed for 5 minutes under high pressure. Allow 10 minutes of natural release before carefully opening the cover.
