In a major step towards promoting sustainable consumption and responsible recycling, Selsmart, a leading e-waste exchange platform by Attero, has joined forces with Havells Lloyd, the consumer durable brand of Havells India, to introduce the Lloyd Eco Exchange Program. The initiative, announced on January 15, aims to simplify and encourage the process of upgrading old home appliances while emphasizing environmental responsibility.
A Sustainable Exchange Solution
The Lloyd Eco Exchange Program provides customers with an easy and transparent method to trade in old appliances from any brand. In return, customers receive attractive value benefits applicable toward the purchase of new Lloyd products, including air conditioners, refrigerators, washing machines, and televisions.
The program is designed to make appliance upgrades not only convenient but also environmentally conscious. By enabling responsible disposal of used appliances, the initiative ensures that electronic waste (e-waste) is kept out of landfills and processed through compliant recycling systems. According to the companies, all appliances collected through the program are sent to Attero’s advanced recycling facilities, where high-purity materials such as copper, gold, and silver are extracted using cutting-edge processes with recovery efficiencies surpassing 98%.
Making Sustainability Accessible
Currently available at select Havells and Lloyd brand stores, the program is expected to expand to partner retailers and reach customers across India. "At Selsmart, our mission is to make responsible electronics recycling seamless and mainstream for Indian consumers. The Lloyd Eco Exchange Program combines real economic value with sustainability, enabling customers to upgrade their appliances without worrying about disposal challenges. Through this partnership with Havells, we aim to accelerate circular economy adoption at a national scale and make eco-conscious choices more rewarding and accessible", said Nitin Gupta, Co-Founder and CEO of Attero.
The initiative allows customers to exchange a wide range of appliances, including air conditioners (split and window formats of various capacities), single-door and double-door refrigerators, washing machines (semi-automatic, fully automatic top-load, and fully automatic front-load), and televisions (CRT and LED/LCD formats of any size). Customers can trade in products from any brand, making the program flexible and convenient for diverse consumer needs.
Advancing India’s Circular Economy
The Lloyd Eco Exchange Program aligns with broader sustainability goals by promoting the circular economy. As per the companies, materials recovered from discarded appliances are reintegrated into domestic manufacturing supply chains, reducing reliance on imports of critical metals and supporting the development of clean technologies. This approach not only prevents e-waste from contributing to landfill pressure but also strengthens India’s self-reliance in key resources.
Selsmart, which was launched in mid-2024 as Attero’s direct-to-consumer e-waste take-back platform, is already a key player in the sustainable recycling space. Active in over 25 cities across India, the platform handles an impressive 30,000 pickup orders each month, offering customers services such as doorstep collection, fair resale valuation, secure data wiping, and traceability for old electronics.
By combining economic incentives with responsible recycling practices, the Lloyd Eco Exchange Program is poised to make eco-friendly appliance upgrades simpler and more appealing for Indian consumers. The program represents a meaningful contribution toward reducing e-waste and fostering a sustainable future.
